The process of burying human remains in the ground, whether a full-body or cremation ashes, is known as an interment. The process of placing cremation ashes in a columbarium niche is known as a committal.
At St. John’s Cemetery, we perform both interments and committals year-round weather conditions permitting.
Our regular hours for interments and committals are Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, with arrival between 10:00am and 3:00pm.
Interments and committals with arrivals outside these hours and on a Saturday will incur additional fees.
We do not perform interments or committals on any Sunday or holiday. Interment fees for the cold season (November 01 to April 14) are greater than those for the warm season (April 15 to October 31).
Any interment where the fees were pre-paid prior to January 2022 will incur an additional fee at the time of scheduling an interment if within the cold season.
The interment of additional cremated remains in the same opening as for another will bear an additional fee in addition to the fee for the first interment.
The purchase of committal rights to a columbarium niche includes the committal of the respective number of cremated remains (single = one, double = two).
Committal of further cremated remains is permitted if they will easily fit within the niche, however, an additional fee will apply.
Opening and closing a niche for any reason other than the initial committal of ash remains will bear a cost.
In the warm season, we request, at the least, three business days notice for the scheduling of an interment or committal.
In the cold season, we request, at the least, five business days notice for the scheduling of an interment or committal.
Also note, due to other possible bookings, your preferred day and time may not be available.
Bookings may be scheduled by either your engaged funeral home, a family member, or the deceased’s representative, however, in the case of multiple bookings for the same interment or committal, a booking from the funeral home will supersede any other booking.
Our cemetery does not open or close mausoleums and outside monument niches. Such opening and closings will be the responsibility of either the family, engaged funeral home, or monument company, however, the committal still must be scheduled with our cemetery.
Committals of full-body remains to a mausoleum and cremation ashes to an outside monument niche or within a full-body casket or another cremation urn will not will not be recorded in our cemetery file and records without the payment of a committal recording fee.
Our cemetery does not accept vaults of any kind in any lot.
Our cemetery does accept “green” burials, that is, without a casket and without embalming, if they can be scheduled within the permitted time frame for full-body human remains without embalming.
Payment of all fees in full is required before any burial, committal, or placement of a grave marker occurs.
Payment is to be made by Visa, MasterCard, or Electronic Funds Transfer only; cheques and cash are not accepted. Harmonized Sales Tax is not applicable to our fees. Fees and other parameters are subject to change without notice.
Please note that if the intended interment or committal is not the remains of a registered holder of the burial or committal rights to a burial lot or columbarium niche, we will require written permission from the registered holder of the burial or committal rights before scheduling an interment or committal.
If the registered holders of the burial or committal rights are deceased, we will require written permission from the rightful legal heirs or assignments; this permission may require the presentation of a certified copy of the registered burial or committal rights holder’s Will or the submission of an executed Affidavit from all surviving heirs or assigns. In such cases, please ensure ample time is allotted for producing these documents prior to scheduling an interment or committal.
